Denham Springs PD officer hit by car on I-12, police investigating
LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — Several law enforcement agencies are investigating after a Denham Springs Police Department officer was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 12 on Friday, July 19.
According to Denham Springs PD, Cpl. Brandon Ashton was attempting to make contact with a subject, who was also on foot on Interstate 12 eastbound near mile marker 14.
Ashton was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge after being hit by a vehicle. The driver reportedly was trying to avoid the subject, who had run into lanes of traffic.
According to Denham Springs PD, Ashton was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He was later released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
“The amount of support we received from our community today was tremendous,” said Chief Rodney Walker. “We definitely feel the love. I want to thank everyone for reaching out and praying for our officer. Please continue to pray for him and his family right now.”

The Denham Springs PD is assisting the Walker Police Department and the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
