Department of Natural Resources: Crews contain a 6.5-acre fire at a state park in Wisconsin
FRIENDSHIP, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials with the Department of Natural Resources say fire crews have contained a 6.5-acre fire at a state park in Wisconsin that started on Sunday afternoon.
According to a release from the DNR, the fire started around 3:30 p.m. on the top of the Roche-A-Cri Mound stairway at the Roche-A-Cri State Park in Adams County.

As of now, no injuries have been reported but the fire is continuing to burn pine needles and leaf litter with minimal damage to trees.
Officials say that on Sunday, crews from 10 fire agencies were able to use hose and hand lines to build containment lines around the fire.
The DNR reports that the Nature Conservancy and the UW-Stevens Point Fire Crew are assisting with mop-up and are continuing to look for smoke and burning materials inside the fire perimeter.
The state park’s main gate is said to be closed for the season and the property will now be closed to the public until further notice as the stairs have been damaged.
At this time, crews are continuing to work in the park and the cause of this fire is under investigation.

The DNR says a lack of precipitation in recent weeks has led to an increased fire danger in the area and that paired with low relative humidity and gusty winds has led to increased wildfire activity throughout the state.
