Deshaun Watson’s Latest Sexual Assault And Battery Lawsuit Has Been Resolved
Deshaun Watson has been on the hot seat for his uninspiring quarterback play for the Cleveland Browns and new lawsuits filed against him. While the on-field efforts are up to him to fix, one of his newest lawsuits has been resolved in conjunction with the plaintiff and their legal team.
“We have now resolved our client’s claim with Deshaun Watson,” Tony Buzbee, a Houston-based attorney told ESPN on Monday evening. Buzbee has become a popular name after revealing that he is working with 120 people who have accused Diddy of sex crimes. “The settlement is confidential.” Watson’s attorney Rusty Hardin also confirmed that they all settled the case.
The unnamed woman in the lawsuit claimed that the three-time Pro Bowler assaulted her in October 2020 before their planned dinner at her apartment; this allegedly occurred while he was a member of the Houston Texans. The woman filed the lawsuit in Harris County, Texas, last month and Watson denied the allegations via his attorney Hardin.
Deshaun Watson has played all five games this NFL season while the league reviewed the complaint under the personal conduct policy. He was not placed on the commissioner’s exempt list because there were no formal charges filed yet and the review had just gotten started. Tony Buzbee claimed that the accuser planned to speak with the NFL along with two witnesses and declined to comment on whether that would still take place in their investigation despite the settlement.
Watson has been under an intense microscope after serving an 11-game suspension in the 2022-2023 NFL season after over 24 women accused him of sexual assault and inappropriate conduct during his massage sessions. Texas grand juries did not pursue criminal charges against him, but he did have to pay a $5 million fine to the NFL and undergo required evaluation by behavioral experts.
The 29-year-old quarterback ended up settling 23 out of the 24 lawsuits in the summer of 2022. There is one remaining from that year and another that was filed in October 2022. The Cleveland Browns are currently 1-4 and tied for last place in the AFC North. Watson has the worst quarterback rating of all quarterbacks who qualify to be assessed.
