Details for Tim Walz's Sept. 17 Asheville campaign rally released: What to know

Democratic vice presidential nominee and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is set to speak in Asheville today, Tuesday, Sept. 17.

As of Monday, the website showed the event as at capacity. A sign-up section has returned to the site, but the page reminds hopeful attendees that, while RSVP is required for the event, it does not guarantee admission.

Where is Tim Walz speaking in Asheville?

Walz will speak at the Salvage Station, 466 Riverside Drive in Asheville.

When will Tim Walz speak in Asheville?

Doors will open for the event at 3 p.m. However, Walz is set to arrive in Asheville at 4:30 p.m. after earlier appearances in Macon and Atlanta, Georgia. This means he is unlikely to speak before 5 p.m. or even later.

How to get tickets to Sept. 17 Walz rally

Sign-up for the event is available online. The event page also stated that any students hoping to join the student section should email [email protected].

Tuesday road closures

Road closures are expected for Sept. 17 along I-26, from the Asheville Regional Airport to the venue and back. Samantha Booth, representative for the Asheville Police Department, told the Citizen Times that exact timing for the "rolling closures" will only be confirmed shortly before they occur.

Today's weather

As predicted by the National Weather Service, Western North Carolina is seeing plenty of precipitation today, with 1-2 inches total possible. However, forecasts show a lower chance of rain after 3 p.m., with showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 3-5 p.m., and then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m.

It's also worth noting that, due to tighter security measures, attendees are prohibited from bringing umbrellas of any size into the event.

An email from the Harris Walz campaign advised attendees that all guests will be required to pass through a United States Secret Service security checkpoint before entering the event.

A valid, government-issued photo ID confirming your RSVP is required for entry. The following items are prohibited:

  • Liquids of any quantity, aerosols, or gels. (Medical items accepted.)

  • Bags larger than a clutch - please leave big bags in your car.

  • Outside posters or signs.

  • Umbrellas, of any size.

  • Vape pens or lighters.

  • Knives, firearms, weapons, or otherwise dangerous objects

  • Any other item deemed hazardous by the United States Secret Service
