Did Gymnast McKayla Maroney Get Kylie Jenner Lips?
Fans are not impressed with what appears to be U.S. Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney’s new lip fillers. But the question remains: Did she or didn’t she?
Maroney, who won gold and silver medals in the 2012 Summer Olympics, in London, became a viral sensation when her disapproving scowl on the winner’s podium became one of the most popular memes of all time. So popular, in fact, that a Tumblr site called McKayla Is Not Impressed was launched, and the athlete even reenacted the notorious moment with President Obama when she visited the White House.

By all accounts, Maroney was a great sport about her meme fame, tweeting on October 31, 2012:
To all the people who are being me for Halloween, and sending me pictures of your “Not Impressed face”.. You.are.awesome!!!(;

But she definitely does not approve of the flak she’s been getting for her seemingly enhanced lips. At the women’s gymnastics Olympic trials on Sunday, Mahoney showed up looking very different. Speculation ensued on Twitter, with some fans suggesting that Maroney’s face is just changing with age — after all, it’s been four years. Many others aren’t buying it.
McKayla Maroney looks super different then she did at London 2012. Yes, it’s been four years… Still.

Maroney responded to the accusations directly on her Instagram account today, denying that she’s had any cosmetic procedures done.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 26,025 lip augmentations were performed in 2014. It’s not a staggering number, but it represents a 40 percent increase in this type of procedure since 2000.
The most popular way to achieve plumper, fuller lips is to have a dermal filler containing hyaluronic acid — which is produced naturally by the body — injected into them. Two such fillers are Restalyne and Juvederm. Another method is a fat transfer, which involves removing a patient’s own fat from another part of the body through liposuction and transferring it to the lips.

Maroney’s new mouth is being compared to that of the poster child for lip augmentation: Kylie Jenner. Last year, after rampant rumors, Jenner sheepishly admitted on an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians that she uses temporary lip fillers to get her famously plump pout, calling her thin lips, “an insecurity of mine.” Her plastic surgeon, Dr. Simon Ourian, has spoken openly and proudly about the procedures he’s done for Jenner and her famous sisters.
In February — following an injury-riddled career that included a broken toe and fractured shin, which required surgery — Maroney announced in an interview with GymCastic that she would be retiring as a professional gymnast. She said she was “bored with being unhealthy” and “ready to put my worth and value into something else.”
So what do you think? Did Maroney simply change with age, or did she pay for her new pout?
