Diocese of Buffalo puts St. Jude Center up for sale
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Diocese of Buffalo has put another one of its properties up for sale, this time The St. Jude Center on Ellicott Street, it announced on Tuesday.
The building, located at 760 Ellicott, has an adjoining carriage house that serves as the current chapel. The 8,755-square-foot structure also includes a residence and hall.
Acquired by the diocese in the late 1960s, the structure was originally built in 1856 as the Victoria Hotel, and a two-story addition was added in 1968.
The property is offered at $1.5 million through Howard Hanna Commercial.
The diocese said that the St. Jude Shrine, which is currently located at the now-for-sale building, will be moved to Saint Joseph Cathedral.
St. Jude Center joins The Catholic Center, Christ the King Seminary and Buffalo State University’s Newman Center as properties currently up for sale by the diocese. WIVB News 4 reported in October that the Diocese of Buffalo offered $100 million to settle hundreds of abuse cases.
