The Democratic National Committee is launching billboards that link former President Donald Trump to the controversial Project 2025 policy agenda. The billboards will be displayed in English and Spanish in Philadelphia and other cities in battleground states.
Trump has said he is not connected with the plan, created by the conservative Heritage Foundation, that would significantly expand presidential powers and restructure the federal government. Several former members of the Trump administration participated in creating the document, which Democrats have tried to draw attention to.
“They know that when Americans hear about Project 2025, they do not support it,” DNC spokesperson Rosemary Boeglin said in a statement. “The DNC won’t let them get away with it.”
The billboards are going up the day before Trump is scheduled to campaign at a rally in Butler, north of Pittsburgh. It’s his first campaign stop in western Pennsylvania since July 2023, when he visited Erie. Next week, the Republican National Convention gets underway in Milwaukee, during which Trump will be officially nominated as the GOP’s 2024 presidential candidate.
Recent polling finds Trump still holds a slight lead over Biden in Pennsylvania. Biden has been trying to quell concerns about his ability to do the job after a poor debate performance just over two weeks ago.
