BAFTA-nominated writer Simon Nye has revealed he doesn't ever expect to return to Doctor Who.

Nye, known as the writer/creator of Men Behaving Badly and The Durrells, wrote the episode 'Amy's Choice' in 2010, but told Digital Spy that he doesn't have any particular desire to revisit the show.

"I think my Doctor Who years are over now," he said. "I did one Doctor Who and I enjoyed it, but I haven't watched it for a while."

As for why Nye didn't contribute another episode after 'Amy's Choice' – which pitted the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith), Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) against the sinister Dream Lord (Toby Jones) – he explained that he simply "wasn't asked".

"But that said, I've had enough work – I've been busy with The Durrells [which ran from 2016 till May of this year] since then," he added.

"It was great to do – and back then, my kids were of an age where we used to watch Doctor Who together and we went down to Cardiff to see the new TARDIS for that series and it was just the most exciting thing.

"But I was happy to just do that. I know some people come back for more, but I think there's a lot of us writers who've just done one episode and we're happy with that."

Doctor Who's next series, starring Jodie Whittaker, is filming now for broadcast in 2020.
