Doctor Who spoilers follow.

Doctor Who has revealed new companion Varada Sethu's character for season 15.

The Andor and Jurassic World Dominion actor will be boarding the TARDIS alongside the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) next year, after a surprise guest appearance in the recent episode 'Boom'.

Some fans suspected Sethu may be reprising her role as Mundy Flynn from the Steven Moffat-penned episode, but that's not the case.

During Doctor Who's Comic-Con panel last week, showrunner Russell T Davies confirmed that Sethu will be playing a new character called Belinda Chandra in season 15 (via Radio Times).

The surname Chandra is one Davies has used before for the Sarah Jane Adventures character Rani Chandra, played by Anjli Mohindra. There's no telling yet if the two characters are related.

A guest appearance from a future companion has occurred before in Doctor Who as well, as fans may remember Jenna Coleman appeared multiple times before taking on the full-time role as Clara Oswald.

Before we meet Belinda, Doctor Who will return at Christmas with another Steven Moffat-penned special, 'Joy to the World', starring Nicola Coughlan.

The festive episode will feature Coughlan's character Joy on a Christmas holiday to London, which is interrupted by the suspicious appearance of a Silurian and The Doctor.

The BBC and Disney are also collaborating on Doctor Who spinoff The War Between the Land and the Sea, starring Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Doctor Who airs on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Classic episodes of Doctor Who are available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
