DOJ: Albuquerque man sentenced for shooting wife at Walmart
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man who was convicted of shooting his wife at an Albuquerque Walmart in 2022 was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Maurice Lacey, 66, walked into the breakroom of the neighborhood market on Cutler near San Mateo and shot the woman in the back of the head, according to court documents.

The victim suffered severe injuries, including a compressed skull fracture requiring emergency surgery and extensive rehabilitation. She continues to experience physical impairments and trauma from the shooting, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Lacey was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction and an active domestic violence restraining order when he entered a Walmart. A federal jury convicted him of a federal firearms offense in March 2024. When released from prison, Lacey will undergo three years of supervised release.
Lacey’s state charges were dismissed to allow the federal case to proceed. KRQE News 13 reached out to the District Attorney’s Office to see if the state case would be brought back. A spokesperson said they would need to reach out to the victim before making that decision.
