CLEVELAND (WJW) — A Cleveland man accused of murdering four people and injuring a child in January 2023 had an outburst in court Thursday during victim impact statements.

Martin Muniz, 41, is accused of killing four people near Mack Court and West 37th Street in Cleveland back in January 2023.

Thursday, he changed a not guilty plea to guilty on a number of charges, including four counts of murder in the case.

The surviving members of the victim’s family, many of whom are relatives of Muniz, were in court to hear the change of plea.

As victim statements were being read, Muniz said multiple times: “I don’t want to hear this [expletive].”

The judge tried several times to stop Muniz’s outburst, but he eventually had to send him out of the courtroom.

All of the victims were shot in the head in separate rooms of the home. All of the victims were related to Muniz.

He was sentenced Thursday to four consecutive life sentences without parole, with an additional 15 years on gun specifications, according to a press release from Prosecutor Mike O’Malley.

Additionally, Muniz pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted aggravated murder and was sentenced to 11 to 16.5 years in prison.

“Martin Muniz is a vicious mass murderer,” O’Malley said in the release. “Anyone who can murder four family members deserves to be removed from society for the rest of their life. I pray the 8-year-old young girl who survived this horrible violence can recover.”
