Donald Trump misstates Barron's age in interview, says he's 17 instead of 18
WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump muddled his youngest son’s Barron’s age in an interview Thursday, saying he was 17 instead of 18.
Trump's remarks were made after the Republican Party of Florida selected Barron Trump, who is graduating high school this month, as an at-large delegate for the Republican National Convention in July at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. "He’s pretty young, I will say. He’s 17," Trump said in the interview with Telemundo 51 Miami. "But if they can do that, I’m all for it."
Concerns about Trump's age 77, and President Joe Biden’s age, 81, have been in the spotlight in the 2024 race. Both candidates have had memory missteps, such as Trump conflating Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., with former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley or Biden mistakenly saying he met with dead European leaders.
Barron turned 18 in March.
The convention will be Barron Trump's first big appearance on the national political stage after largely staying out of the spotlight during Trump’s first two campaigns and his term in office.
Trump’s family members, including daughter Ivanka Trump and sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, have all played crucial roles in his campaign and administration.
