Donald Trump Reveals Child-Care Policies Inspired by Daughter Ivanka
Donald Trump unveiled several policy proposals for lowering child-care costs on Tuesday, which were partially influenced by his daughter, Ivanka Trump.
Among his new policy proposals was a plan for six weeks of paid maternity leave, according to The Washington Post.
In a speech delivered in Aston, Pa., Trump proposed the maternity leave policy to mothers who don't already receive leave from their employer.
"We need working mothers to be fairly compensated for their work, and to have access to affordable, quality child care for their kids," said Trump.
His policies mark a change from the conservative GOP ideals and the Republican presidential candidate appeared to be showing off a more softer side.
According to a new poll from NBC News, Donald Trump continues to slowly close his gap with Hillary Clinton.
Clinton leads Trump by just four percentage points – 48 percent to 44 percent –.
Clinton, the former Secretary of State and senator from New York, has proposed guaranteeing new parents 12 weeks of paid family leave – double Trump’s plan.
Ivanka Trump introduced her father in Pennsylvania Tuesday, marking her return to the campaign trail since she introduced her father at the Republican National Convention in July.
The 34-year-old high-ranking executive at the Trump Organization is a mother of three and married to investor Jared Kushner.
The Washington Post reported that the candidate's daughter encouraged her father for weeks to outline policies that would appeal to families that feel overburdened.
She said she was "grateful" for having the means to raise her children and have a career, something most women didn't have.
"This must change. As a society we need to create policies that champion all parents, enabling the American family to thrive," she said.
