Donald Trump's Republicans plan to brew up a party in Milwaukee
WASHINGTON - The city that beer made famous will be promoting its favorite product with delegates to next week's Republican convention in Milwaukee.
Pubs and breweries will be frequent sites for meetings of various state delegations and interest groups, according to a schedule posted on the Republican National Committee website.
A welcoming party on Sunday, July 14, the day before the convention formally opens, is entitled "Red, White, & Brew."
In a written statement, RNC leaders Michael Whatley and Lara Trump described Milwaukee as "ground-zero on the road back to the White House."
On Friday, the RNC said in a statement, "Milwaukee schoolchildren will help with preparations for one of the most iconic GOP Convention rites: the thousands of red, white and blue balloons that will drop at the conclusion of the Republican nominee President Donald J. Trump's acceptance speech."
That speech is scheduled to close the convention on July 18, according to the schedule.
In the three days before that, the schedule features formal convention sessions, meetings of the individual state delegations, and events sponsored by organizations promoting various Republican causes, from foreign policy to energy production.
The Republicans also announced daily "themes" for the convention, all tied to Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan. Monday is "Make America Wealthy Once Again," followed by days devoted to making the country "safe," "strong," and "great" again.
The schedule will also be changed.
There is nothing on it about the vice presidential nominee. Trump may wait until convention week to announce his pick, and he or she will surely give an acceptance speech.
Some of the events are issue-oriented. The Marquette Law Poll, for example, is hosting an event to analyze the political dynamics in Wisconsin, a key battleground state in the fall election.
The Heritage Foundation, sponsors of the oft-criticized Project 2025, is also holding an event.
Filmmakers will also be displaying their wares at the Republican convention, including a document on Iran called "Theocracy of Terror" and a feature film on GOP icon Ronald Reagan, who is played by actor Dennis Quaid.
Other events are sponsored by organizations representing lawyers, veterans, Hispanics, and Italian-Americans.
Many of these events are at places like the "Lakefront Brewery" and the "Drink Wisconsibly Pub."
"Whether it's on tap, in bottles, cans or kegs, beer is what 'Made Milwaukee Famous,'" says the 'Visit Milwaukee' website. "From legendary German brewers Blatz, Pabst, Schlitz and Miller to modern craft brew masters, Milwaukee's beer heritage and culture continues."
