Downtown Phoenix pizza and cocktail bar closed after 16 months: 'We had a lot of fun'
Liar's Club, located at the corner of Central Avenue and Monroe Street in downtown Phoenix, closed on April 14 after 16 months.
The owners of now-closed cocktail bar Khla, Colton Brock and John Sagasta, opened Liar's Club in December 2022 with a menu of cocktails, beer, burgers, wings and Detroit-style pizza designed by then-partner, Tyka Chheng, before he was removed from the partnership for inappropriate behavior.
The closing announcement was posted on Instagram and read: "It’s with low feelings that we must announce the closing of our beloved Liars Club. We have sold the project to some great local operators that have some cool plans. We will be keeping the brand and intend to reopen when the right space arises."
How fans reacted
Apropos of the bar's name, some fans were at first skeptical about the veracity of the post. But finding out that their beloved bar was indeed closing led to shocked and disappointed comments. @alleedecoste wrote: "anything cool downtown is closing & making room for more corporate (expletive). it’s heartbreaking to watch. sending love to your team ??"
"No way! Where else am I going to get the best Detroit style pizza?!" wrote @_flygirl_.
"We had a lot of fun @liarsclubphx ?? We all look forward to seeing ya’ll pop up somewhere else," wrote @picksterone.
The owners did not respond to The Republic's request for comment at the time of writing.
