Doylestown's Pennsylvania Soup & Seafood has closed, but here's the plan for new eatery
A popular downtown Doylestown eatery has closed its doors after 17 years.
Pennsylvania Soup & Seafood House, best known for its homemade soups, announced the closure Monday in a Facebook post by its owners, Keith Blalock and Chad Riedley, who started the restaurant in 2007.
“We extend our sincerest appreciation to everyone who has walked through our doors and shared a meal with us. We are immensely grateful for the opportunity to have served the Doylestown community and to have been a part of your lives,” they wrote.
Between high cost of staffing and products combined with an inability to sell alcohol, the restaurant, which was inside Main Street Marketplace, was no longer viable, said Blalock.
“The economics of doing this was not profitable. But I loved it, I loved the place, I love cooking, I’ll miss that kitchen, but it all comes down to the profitability of things,” Blalock said.
This won’t be the end of their partnership, he said, or the soups.
Blalock and Riedley, who also own Penn Taproom, located just a block over on West State Street, have plans for another restaurant in Doylestown Township.

And while he couldn’t share the exact details yet, he said it will provide a much larger space, allowing them the room to grow and offer more than they could in the past.
“We’ll be able to bring in the same things we did at Soup and Seafood while adding more to it. I can’t wait, it’s going to be great,” Blalock said. “Come the fall, there will be a place to get the creamy crab and some of the other great soups we’ve made in the past.”
In the meantime, he confirmed they have no plans to close Penn Taproom, where Soup & Seafood gift cards can be redeemed. Soup & Seafood will also continue to offer catering, which can be requested by calling Penn Taproom.
