Dozens of ATVs, dirt bikes, cars take over city streets of Buffalo Sunday

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Dozens of cars, motorcycles, dirt bikes and ATVs are taking over the city streets of Buffalo. It happened over the weekend — and could’ve put other drivers at risk.

A massive group of dirt bikes, ATVs, cars and motorcycles could be seen traveling south on Elmwood Avenue early Sunday morning. Dozens went right past the WIVB News 4 station in North Buffalo, coming from the Tops Elmwood Plaza next door around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

The was group speeding, driving on the other side of the road, going through red lights, putting other drivers at risk, and some people were even hanging out of car windows.

Dirt bikes and ATVs are illegal on city streets, but still remain a quality of life issue for many residents and drivers across the city.

Hoards of illegal ATVs and dirt bike drivers joyriding through the city has been a problem that’s been plaguing Buffalo for years, especially in residential areas with operators of these vehicles doing burnouts.

In the past, police have cracked down on the issue, working with other police departments, including the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and using helicopters to track the operators of these vehicles.

Buffalo Police say they responded to calls about reckless driving Saturday night into Sunday morning, but by the time police got there, the operators of these vehicles were gone.

No injuries were reported.
