East Baton Rouge mayor-president meets with St. George officials about service plans
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Mayor-President Sharon Weston-Broome released a statement after meeting with St. George officials.
On Tuesday, Broome met with the City of St. George Mayor Dustin Yates and transition district representatives to talk about the plan to deliver basic services for residents.

“The establishment of the City of St. George marks a new chapter in our Parish, and my focus as Parish President remains on supporting the well-being of all our residents here in East Baton Rouge Parish. Today, I had a very cordial and productive meeting with the Mayor of the City of St. George and representatives from their Transition District.
Our discussion focused on how the City of St. George is beginning their plan to deliver basic services and how we can collectively work to make this as smooth a transition as possible for everyone. I remain committed to maintaining the quality of life for everyone in East Baton Rouge Parish by ensuring that every resident is well-served and adequately supported.”

The Louisiana Supreme Court ruled that the City of St. George could incorporate in April, becoming the fifth-largest city in the state with 86,000 residents. Gov. Jeff Landry appointed the mayor, police chief and council members.
Residents will vote on a two-percent sales tax transfer during the December election.
