East Baton Rouge Metro Council OKs proposal for new River Center, hotel
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The East Baton Rouge Metro Council has approved Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome’s proposal to redevelop the River Center complex and build a new headquarters hotel.
The EBR Metro Council approved an ordinance in March that supported a new $300 million entertainment and sports center proposed by LSU, which allows Broome to create more space for conventions and build a hotel near the River Center.
Broome’s redevelopment plan is estimated to cost $120 million.
The project will be overseen by a committee with several representatives. The ordinance said the District 10 council member will chair the committee. The current District 10 council member is Carolyn Coleman. Broome’s appointee has not been announced yet.
