East Baton Rouge Schools superintendent to make $280K, incentive pay
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board has decided on Superintendent LaMont Cole’s new contract terms.
According to the school board, Cole is expected to make $285,000 at a base salary, effective immediately through July 31, 2028. Cole can also make additional money through incentive pay for each criterion met under his leadership.
Cole’s starting salary is $30,000 more than the previous superintendent, Sito Narcisse.
Cole was selected as the new EBR Schools superintendent on Wednesday, July 24, with an 8-0 vote, with one abstaining. This comes after the final three candidates withdrew from the superintendent search, which led to a new search.
When is the first day of class for schools around Baton Rouge?
As part of his contract, Cole is expected to meet or exceed performance targets including:
a 3% increase in all students’ scoring mastery or above LEAP tests
a 3% increase in all students’ meeting college and career ACT benchmarks
decrease the number of schools earning “D” or “F” ratings by five schools year-over-year
decrease the number of schools earning “C” ratings by three schools year-over-year
increase the district’s graduation rate by 3% annually;
schools with A or B ratings should increase by a minimum of 2% annually
schools with C, D or F ratings should increase by a minimum of 5% annually
increase the percentage of college enrollment for all students by 3%
increase the percentage of Black, Hispanic or economically disadvantaged students by 5%
increase students’ standardized reading assessment grades by 5%
a 3% increase in students earning advanced placements (AP) course credits
a 3% increase in staff satisfaction with workplace environment
decrease the truancy rate by 10% in comparison to the previous year
have at least one EBR school recognized as a National Blue or Green Ribbon School each year
increase teacher’s pay by 5% annually
