EBR Parish Association of Educators: No sickout on first day of school
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A planned sickout over wanting Adam Smith to be the superintendent of East Baton Rouge Parish Schools is not happening.
Valencea Johnson, president of the EBR Parish Association of Educators said, “There will not be a sickout. Mr. Smith endorsed Mr. Cole and is now the deputy superintendent. Everyone will report to work on the first day of school.”
BRProud has reached out to the East Baton Rouge Federation of Teachers & School Employees for details on what they plan to do on the first day of school.
Mayor Pro Tem LaMont Cole was chosen to be the new superintendent on Wednesday, July 25. Adam Smith was chosen to be the deputy superintendent.

Cole talked about what is next at a news conference on Thursday, July 25. He spoke about the teachers possibly not showing up on the first day of school.
The new superintendent said, “There has been some discussion about teachers not showing up on the first day but I think myself and Deputy Superintendent Smith will sit down with the unions, have some very, very candid and transparent conversations.”
Students return to class in East Baton Rouge Parish on Thursday, Aug. 8.
