Elderly Wisconsin man hits bicyclist with vehicle and flees the scene, charges pending

ADAMS COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – An 81-year-old Wisconsin man is accused of hitting a bicyclist with his vehicle on Thursday afternoon and fleeing the scene.

According to a release, on Sept. 12, 2024, at around 2:30 p.m., the Adams County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a bicyclist hit by a vehicle in the 3200 block of 5th Ln.

The caller said the vehicle did not stop and continued traveling north on 5th Ln. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office identified the vehicle’s make and model involved based on evidence collected at the scene.

Through an investigation, deputies located the vehicle at a residence near the crash scene. The driver was identified as 81-year-old George Jones Jr. of Grand Marsh.

Jones Jr. was interviewed, and charges were determined to be submitted to the Adams County District Attorney’s Office once the investigation was complete.

The bicyclist involved was transported to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
