Election 2024: See East Baton Rouge Metro Council seats with winners, which districts will see campaigns
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Qualifying for local and state races, including East Baton Rouge Metro Council, ended Friday, July 19. See which races will have elections and which seats have been claimed by the sole qualifiers.
Most incumbents qualified for reelection on the first day, including Lamont Cole with District 7 and Aaron Moak with District 4. Darryl Hurst qualified to re-run for his District 5 seat on Thursday, July 18.
Several candidates entered to run for the District 2 seat. Dina Johnson and Anthony Kenney, both Democrats, qualified on Wednesday. Eugene Collins and Tia Mills, both Democrats, entered the race on Friday, July 19.
Several council seats were determined at the end of the qualifying period at 4:30 p.m. July 19 because only one candidate signed up to run.
Those seats are:
District 3: Rowdy Gaudet, Republican.
District 4: Aaron Moak, Republican.
District 8: Denise Amoroso, Republican.
District 9: Dwight Hudson, Republican.
For all other council races, the primary election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 5, and the ballot will include the race for mayor of the city and president of the United States. The general election will determine any runoffs and is set for Saturday, Dec. 7.
