Emmerdale's Charley Webb makes TV comeback

Emmerdale star Charley Webb returned to viewers' screens over the weekend, with the actor making a guest appearance in the latest episode of ITV crime drama McDonald & Dodds.

Webb, who played Emmerdale's Debbie Dingle, starred in Sunday's (July 28) episode of McDonald & Dodds, playing a character named Hilary McLean, a nurse who claimed to be a key witness in the case of a man who was murdered while on a bus.

However, detectives McDonald (Tala Gouveia) and Dodds (Jason Watkins) later discovered that Hilary had been lying.

The episode, which is available to watch on streaming service ITVX, also starred singer and former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Will Young, while the latest series of the drama has also featured The Voice Kids coach Pixie Lott.

Webb revealed on her Instagram Stories that she had enjoyed her time working on the episode, as she posted a short clip of one of her scenes and wrote, "Missed it tonight but had fun with the loveliest people".

Webb, who separated from her husband and former Emmerdale co-star Matthew Wolfenden last year, revealed in September that she doesn't regret leaving her soap role behind after almost two decades playing Debbie.

"It felt like the right time for me personally to make that jump from Emmerdale and I don't have any regrets about it," she said.

"I'm ambitious to push myself and it's just about choosing the right projects from now on."

Debbie has been living in Scotland since she left the village for good in 2021, but has been mentioned on occasion by her family since her exit.

Debbie's final appearance in the soap saw her taking revenge on secret lover Al Chapman, alongside his fiancée Priya Kotecha - although their plan was ruined by Debbie's mum Charity Dingle when she was tricked into revealing all to Al.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
