Erie County contributes $3 million to new FeedMore WNY facility in Hamburg
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz announced Tuesday Erie County’s $3 million contribution to FeedMore Western New York’s new facility on Camp Road in Hamburg.
FeedMore WNY said its current facilities are operating far beyond their capacity. The new 197,700-square-foot facility will cost nearly $107 million.
Erie County became the first local municipality to financially support the project. Poloncarz said now more than ever, it’s important for FeedMore WNY to be able to continue providing critical nutrition to families across Western New York.
“We understand that you cannot have a strong community as possible if there are people in our community that are vulnerable, that are hurting, that could be in better straights themselves,” Poloncarz said. “We understand that we need to invest in these types of projects because if one of these people in our community is hurting, then in some ways all of us are hurting.”
The new facility will double its warehouse space, allowing the organization to continue to distribute food and expand its home-delivered meals program, along with classroom and training spaces for its free workforce development program.
So far, over $79 million has been raised through both public and private contributions, which includes the county’s $3 million.
Although FeedMore WNY is still $28 million away from its goal, site work has already begun. They hope to move into the space in 2026.
