On Wednesday morning, the narcotics team served a search warrant on 2128 Ledbetter Lane. Deputies say they located a trafficking amount of 140 grams of meth, hydrocodone and marijuana.

Around $2,000 in cash and ammunition was found as well, officials said.

30-year-old convicted felon, Jamal Dortch, was arrested Wednesday morning with five charges of trafficking methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

Sheriff Simmons says he and his team know they are bettering the community when another drug house is brought to justice.

“At least for that period of time, for the short duration, hopefully, it’s a little more difficult to get drugs. There’s a little less poison in our community and that neighborhood is just a little bit safer.”

Although Escambia’s Narcotics team is the one to put the offenders in handcuffs, Sheriff Chip Simmons says it’s often a community effort to bring down these drug homes.

“The neighborhood says, ‘Hey, this house, this particular house looks a little suspicious, and then we start to initiate the investigation with that.”

The Sheriff’s Office takes to social media each time a new drug house is closed, posting with their ‘this drug house is closed sign.’
