Yahoo News exclusive video shows extensive fire damage inside Notre Dame Cathedral
Exclusive video obtained by Yahoo News shows Notre Dame Cathedral’s world-famous stained-glass windows, which survived the fire, and the Paris sky visible above where the wooden roof was destroyed. Water is pooled on the floor, and votive candles and statues remain in place, many with minimal, if any, damage.

The cathedral, which dates back to the 12th century, caught fire Monday afternoon. Investigators are yet to confirm a cause, but it is believed to have resulted from ongoing renovations. No one was injured in the blaze, and a team of firefighters, staff and Ministry of Culture members were able to save most of the sacred artifacts in the sanctuary, including the Crown of Thorns purportedly worn by Jesus at the crucifixion.
French President Emmanuel Macron said he wants the cathedral rebuilt by the summer of 2024, when Paris will host the Olympics. The cost of reconstructing it will be in the billions of euros.
