Gallatin home explosion that left 1 injured believed to be intentional: TBI

SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — At least one person was critically injured in what authorities are calling a house explosion that appears intentional in Gallatin Friday morning.

The explosion was reported at around 7:45 a.m. in the 300 block of Chaffin Court in the area of Airport Road, according to Sumner County Emergency Management.

A woman from inside the home sustained second-degree burns and was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center, where she is alert and talking, Gallatin Fire Chief Jeff Beaman said.

At least six homes in the immediate area were damaged in the blast. Gas service has been disconnected in the neighborhood.

Airport Road was closed from Coles Ferry Road to Highway 109 but has since reopened, according to the Gallatin Police Department.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) told News 2 the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is now the lead investigating agency. The ATF confirmed their personnel are also on scene to help determine the exact cause of the explosion.

Just before 4:30 p.m. Friday, the TBI said the explosion “does appear at this time to have been intentional.”

No additional information was immediately released.
