Families affected by Grosse Tete Bridge closure have options for kids’ school transportation
IBERVILLE PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — The Iberville Parish School Board says staff have been working on transportation options for families affected by the Grosse Tete Bridge closure.
Students who would be impacted attend Crescent Elementary, Plaquemine High, MSA West Elementary and MSA West Middle School. School officials said parents will be notified of their options before the first day of class.
The school system said that buses would go to the Plaquemine area by driving on the interstate and through Port Allen for families living in the North Iberville school zone.
The superintendent said affected families will have five options.
Option 1: Students will ride a bus that will drive on the interstate.
Option 2: Students will ride a bus from the Grosse Tete and Little Farm areas to the pedestrian ferry, and then a bus will take them to their schools.
Option 3: Students will take online classes until the bridge is repaired.
Option 4: Students will attend NIE or NIH in person.
Option 5: A parent or guardian will drive students.
Parents must choose an option by July 31.
Families affected by the bridge closure who do not get a link to the online form should contact the school’s principal/director.
School board members will answer questions at a 6 p.m. July 25 community meeting at the Intracoastal Road Fire Station.
Iberville residents express concern on Grosse Tete Bridge repairs
The Grosse Tete Bridge was damaged after it was hit by a boat in June. Repairs have started and a pedestrian ferry opened until construction work is done.
