Fans Heartbroken After Trader Joe’s Recalls Sold-Out Summer Candle
Trader Joe's is recalling one of its most sought-after summertime scented candles over safety concerns, and fans are distraught.
In a statement published on the fan-favorite grocery store chain's website Thursday, the company alerted shoppers of an apparent issue with its seasonal Mango Tangerine candle, explaining that candles with SKU# 56879 "may have an unexpected burn pattern," which it said poses a safety risk.
"The candle flame can spread from the wick to the wax causing a larger than expected flame," the June 27 notice continued, urging those in possession of the recalled candle to immediately discard the product or return it to any Trader Joe’s location for a full refund.

Fans of the limited-edition candle didn't take the recall very well, especially since the seasonal scent is currently listed as "not available" on the Trader Joe's website–meaning if they want to replace their recalled candle, they'll have to turn to third-party resellers (and there's still no guarantee the products currently listed for sale on sites like Amazon will have a different SKU #).
"You thought it couldn't get any worse? Oh, it can get worse," one X (formerly Twitter) user joked alongside a link to the company's official recall.
"But it's July 4th!" another sarcastically responded to the news.
Trader Joe's official notice didn't say if any injuries or fires have been reported by those who've used the product, nor did it disclose exactly how many candles are affected by the recall. A company spokesperson told CBS News that the recalled candles were made in the U.S. but did not provide any additional information.
The outlet also reported that at least one shopper posted to a private Facebook group dedicated to Trader Joe's products, sharing their experience: "just a PSA: I recently bought a Mango Tangerine candle that completely caught on fire after I lit it," the user wrote.
Customers with questions about the recalled candle are encouraged to contact Trader Joe's Customer Relations at (626) 599-3817 or via email.
