Before the fatal floods took her life, Yuko Love was known for her kind, loving spirit
Yuko Love had a special way of leaving people happier in her wake.
For those who knew Love, they would never forget her warm smile, her positive energy or her kind spirit.
“She was unbelievably amazing,” said Maria Egan, a friend.
Love, 64, of Newtown Township, was among the victims of Saturday’s flash flood in Upper Makefield.
In addition to Love, other victims were identified as Enzo DePiero, 78, and his wife Linda, 74, of Newtown Township; Susan Barnhart, 53, of Titusville, New Jersey; and Kathryn "Katie" Seley, 32, of Charleston, South Carolina.
Seley's two youngest children, Conrad Sheils, 9 months, and Matilda Sheils, 2, are the only unaccounted for victims of Saturday's torrential rainstorm.
Before her life was taken, Love could be found on any given day working out at the Newtown Athletic Club. Three times a week, she would take a Zumba class taught by Egan, who said Love was always eager to get up on stage and use her positive energy to help others.
“She was the sweetest person, really supportive of everyone. She was engaging and funny and made every class so much fun,” Egan said.
Outside of the club, Egan and Love often spent time together with other friends from the gym, celebrating birthdays and milestones, hitting up restaurants and dancing the night away.
“We had this beautiful friendship,” said Egan, which is also how she also got to know Love’s husband, Dave, who is one of the 10 survivors and currently hospitalized for injuries he sustained in the floods, according to several friends. The couple had been in the car together when they were swept up by the sudden deluge of water.
“They met in college through choir,” Egan said. “They were really cute. You could see they loved each other a lot.”

Linda Mitchell, public relations director at the athletic club, got to know Love well over the years, as well. She said despite the club having more than 10,000 members, Love left an impression that made her stand out in any crowd.
“She had such a joy about her,” Mitchell said. “There are just people who have a way of reaching other people with the spirit that’s in them, and she was one of them. You felt loved by her the moment you met her.”
Among her Newtown Grant community, where she lived on a quiet block of just 14 homes, Love is remembered by neighbors for being warm and welcoming.
Living next door, Lisa James couldn’t help but notice the love shared between Dave and Yuko.
“They’re just a really sweet couple,” she said.
Hong Han and his wife Jung, got to know the Loves over the 23 years they lived across the street from one another since the neighborhood was first built.
“Dave and Yuko were both incredibly friendly people, and they were very loving to each other,” said Han. “It’s very tragic that he lost Yuko. She was a very good woman and always very kind.”
Fitness instructors at Newtown Athletic Club are coordinating a special event in Love's memory. Details will be posted on the club's Facebook page once plans are set.
"All of her teachers from all of her favorite classes are putting on this event to dance in her honor," Mitchell said. "It will feel like she's right there dancing with us."
