Federal judge pauses NBA Youngboy gun case; Supreme Court to rule on similar case

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A federal judge in the Baton Rouge rapper, NBA YoungBoy, or Kentrell Gaulden, has paused the ruling in his federal gun charge case.

According to court documents, Gaulden was accused of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm not registered in the national firearms registration in an indictment in March 2021.

The Baton Rouge rapper was arrested in September 2020 with at least 15 other people during a music video shoot.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office agreed to drop the firearm registration charge, and it was dismissed with prejudice earlier this month.

Another federal case, United States v. Rahimi, is pending that has a similar argument for a firearm prohibition, as well as a case in the Fifth Circuit Court. The judge in the Fifth Circuit has ordered a pause until a decision is made in the Rahimi case.

United States Judge Shelly Dick said in a Monday, March 11, order that she will not decide until the Supreme Court rules in the United States v. Rahimi case.
