Feeding Louisiana becomes new provider of food program for seniors
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana Department of Health has a new partnership with Feeding Louisiana, a network of five food banks in the state, to feed eligible senior residents using U.S. Department of Agriculture donated foods.
LDH said the network of five food banks includes the Food Bank of Central Louisiana, Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana, Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana and Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana.
“Ensuring that seniors have access to nutritious food is a priority for us, and we are committed to maintaining the high standards of service established by the program,” said Feeding Louisiana Executive Director Pat R. Van Burkleo.
Officials said Feeding Louisiana will manage the Louisiana Commodity Supplemental Food Program starting Monday, July 1. They are taking over from Catholic Charities who had administered the program since 1986. Catholic Charities decided to discontinue the partnership, according to LDH.
