Fine elected Republican state committeeman; Rogerson wins as state committeewoman

Florida Rep. Randy Fine on Tuesday was elected as Republican state committeeman, getting 64.07% of the vote against three other candidates.

Meanwhile, Marie Rogerson was elected as Republican state committeewoman against five other candidates. She received 38.15% of the vote in her race.

These are internal party positions with a four-year term and no salary.

Among their roles, they act as a liaison between the State Executive Committee and the County Executive Committee; elect a congressional district chairman who is entitled to vote on the State Executive Board; and serve as at-large members of the County Executive Committee.

The position is the equivalent of being a Brevard County delegate the state Republican Committee.

The other candidates for state committeeman were Edward Brankey, Greg Loyd and Wayne Twiddy.

The other candidates for state committeewoman were Marcie Adkins, Mary Benton, Natalie Brankey, Karen L. Colby, and Gloria Rossi.

Fine won two elections on Tuesday, also winning a Republican primary for Florida Senate in District 19.

There was a court challenge involving the candidate qualifying paperwork filed by Fine and Twiddy. But a Circuit Court judge on Monday dismissed that challenge.

What's next

The winners will take their offices. There is no runoff, even though no candidate for state committeewoman received more than 50% of the vote.

Fine: 37,113 (64.07%)

Loyd: 11.461 (19.79%)
