Fire damages NE Portland fish-and-chips eatery

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A fish-and-chips restaurant was seriously damaged by a fire that appears to have started on the outside of the building, fire officials told KOIN 6 News.

Crews rushed to the 42nd Avenue Fish and Chips in the 5300 block of NE 42nd around 5 p.m. Sunday, Portland Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Jason Kelly said. The restaurant was open at the time and Kelly said the “waitress did a wonderful job” of alerting the customers and getting them all to safety.

No one was injured.

But Kelly said it was a “challenging fire” for crews. When they arrived, they found heavy fire with some power lines arcing and down. The multiple roof lines also presented a challenge for firefighters.
