First responders team up to battle blood shortage
REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio (WCMH) – First responders teamed up on Monday to host a blood drive in central Ohio.
It’s part of the Battle of the Badges taking place this July and departments in Reynoldsburg teamed up to make a difference.
Residents gathered at the Reynoldsburg Community Church to donate during a crucial time of year for the American Red Cross – the summer months, when increased travel and severe weather can cause appointment cancellations and blood shortages.
Truro Township Fire Chief Jeff Sharps said first responders know how important this can be to save lives.
“Sometimes we’re on the other side where we actually are seeing the blood being hung and infused into, you know, those patients that need it,” he said. “So, it’s a really full circle, kind of wholesome event.”
The Reynoldsburg Division of Police also helped organize the drive.
If you missed out, Sharps said there will be other chances to give this month.
