Amazing Granny is Our New Fitness Inspiration

Take a look at the picture above. How old do you think the woman is? 30? 40? 50? Nope. This a recent snapshot of 64-year-old grandmother and inspiration, Wendy Ida (pronounced ee’da). And yes, that is totally a six-pack she’s rocking. Fitness goals or what? Just one look at Wendy’s toned abs makes us want to drop and give her twenty.

And that’s exactly what we’d have to do (and then some) if we have desires to look anything like Wendy when we hit the big 6-0 (or now, to be honest). Because sadly, there’s no quick fix. The grandmother and mum to 41-year-old, Sky, credits her youthful looks to a full-on fitness regime.

Wendy first started working out when she was 43, after coming out of an abusive relationship which, according to her website, left her in “poor shape, bad health, and with low self-esteem” Now she puts in one-and-a-half to two hours at the gym every day doing intense cardio and weight workouts. She’s also a bodybuilder, entering her first competition at 57, and she likes to salsa dance. Talk about keeping busy!

“I’m 64 and in the best shape of my life,” she told Metro. “When I say how old I am people don’t believe me and want to see my drivers license. People say I look like I’m in my early thirties. I had someone aged 22 think I was their age. And whenever me and Sky are together people mistake us for sisters. It happens so often.”

Not only has she dropped 80 lbs in the two decades she’s been working out, but Wendy also credits fitness for kick-starting an incredible journey of self-empowerment. She wants to help others do the same, regularly posting tips and advice to her 4k plus followers on Instagram. She’s managed to rack up a couple of Guinness World Records including one for doing 37 burpees in one minute, no big deal.

“I want to be an inspiration to everyone who says, ‘I’m too old and can’t do it’,” she says. “Do a little exercise and work your way up and don’t take no for an answer,” she instructs.

Suddenly all of our excuses seem a little lame. See you on the treadmill!
