Fond du Lac Police Department cautions residents against ‘creative’ social media scam involving pet urination on July 4

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – A fake social media post spread around over the weekend, prompting a response from the Fond du Lac Police Department (FDLPD).

The post was a fake press release that was portrayed as a compensation offer from the City of Fond du Lac. The ‘release’ claimed that the FDLPD would issue a one-time reimbursement of $500 to anybody whose pet urinated on their carpet or furniture as a result of fireworks.

The FDLPD’s response on Facebook referred to the post as “Creative, but today’s scam of the day.”

“Hopefully,” the post added. “No one has fallen for this scam today.”

Additionally, the statement said that any official announcements from the City can be found on their official Facebook pages.
