Former BCSO deputy gets deferred sentence after no contest plea in DWI case

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A former Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office took a plea deal in connection to his drunk driving arrest. Daniel Vazquez-Moreno plead no contest to a first-offense DWI charge in front of Judge Ann Maxwell-Chavez Tuesday afternoon.

Early in the morning, the day after the Super Bowl, Rio Rancho Police were called to a home from a domestic violence call. Just as they arrived, Vazquez-Moreno left even after he was told to stop.

An officer followed him, watching as he weaved in and out of traffic, including going the wrong way down the road. The officer then asked Vazquez-Moreno how much he had to drink.

Vazquez-Moreno failed his field sobriety test and blew double the legal limit.

The judge gave Vazquez-Moreno a deferred sentence. If he completes 90 days at the Sandoval County Jail and a year of probation, his conviction will be overturned. He was never charged for fleeing from police.

Vazquez-Moreno was the third BCSO deputy to be arrested this year off-duty. Adrienne Seay resigned from BCSO after her arrest at a DWI checkpoint on New Year’s Day after admitting to drinking a couple of glasses of wine. Her charges were dismissed following a decision there was no probable cause for the arrest.

Michael Borrecco was arrested in late January after police say he pulled a gun on two men outside a gas station while drunk. He’s scheduled to go to trial in September.
