Donald Trump to visit Detroit on Monday to address National Guard conference

Former President Donald Trump plans to visit Detroit on Monday to address a conference of the National Guard Association of the United States, his campaign announced Thursday.

It will be the seventh visit to Michigan this year by Trump, the Republican nominee for president, who most recently made a campaign stop in Howell Tuesday.

Michigan is one of a handful of states expected to decide what polls show is a close election between Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, and Trump.

The National Guard Association of the United States is holding its annual business meeting at Huntington Place in downtown Detroit from Friday through Monday. More than 4,000 Guard officers, spouses and other guests are registered to attend, according to the Trump news release.

Pentagon leaders and lawmakers are expected to address the conference, which invites both presidential nominees when the conference is held during an election year, the news release said. Trump addressed the conference in 2016.

There was no immediate word Thursday on whether Harris planned to address the conference. The association said she was invited.
