Former Town of Evans supervisor asked to pay back over $23K
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Town of Evans Ethics Committee is asking the former supervisor to pay back $23,054.79 after they say she used her position to “secure a financial benefit to herself.”
The request follows New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s audit of the town back in September, which found that they mishandled tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars over the course of three years. The audit also found that Mary Hosler, the town’s former supervisor, gave herself benefits she wasn’t entitled to.
In 2021 and 2023, Hosler was the deciding vote in appointing herself as the budget director with an annual salary of $15,000, the committee said. Hosler was also fined $2,054.79 by the committee for her time in the position last year before she resigned.
The committee stated that in August 2020, she submitted and approved a total of $6,000 for health insurance opt-out payments.
The town board will meet on Nov. 6 to vote on whether Hosler will have to pay the fines or not.
