Four killed in 3 separate crashes on Ohio Turnpike

(WJW) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating three deadly crashes that took place within an hour of each other on the Ohio Turnpike Thursday morning.

The first crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on I-80 eastbound in Swanton Township, Lucas County.

The crash involved four commercial vehicles and one passenger vehicle. According to OSHP, one person was killed. At least 3 others were hospitalized.

The second crash occurred less than a mile away 30 minutes later.

OSHP said two people were killed in a crash involving two commercial vehicles, one of which was hauling sulfuric acid, and a passenger vehicle.

OSHP said there were multiple injuries. The Toledo Fire Department cordoned off the scene.

Just before 6:30 a.m., within a few miles of the first crashes, troopers investigated a 5-vehicle accident on I-80 westbound. The crash killed one person, and there were multiple injuries, troopers said. It involved two commercial vehicles and three passenger vehicles, according to a press release from OSHP.

None of those involved has been identified.

The accidents are still under investigation.

The Ohio Turnpike was closed in Lucas County both east and westbound for several hours.
