Get free school supplies before first day of class in Baton Rouge: See where, when
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Students return to school in just a few weeks, and back-to-school supplies can be very expensive. According to the National Retail Federation, families with children in elementary through high school plan to spend an average of $890 on school supplies.
East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor Pro Tempore Lamont Cole is trying to ease the financial burden on parents with the annual “Pack the Sack Back to School Giveaway” from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 21 at Park Medical Academy, 2680 Bogan Walk in Baton Rouge.
“We are going to give away 500 book sacks with school supplies, pencils, pens, papers, folders, calculators, rulers, everything we feel the students need in order to be prepared for the first day,” said Cole.
The event will also include free immunizations, free physicals, vendors, food and games.
