Friends, former students remember Spanish Fort woman killed by ex-husband in murder-suicide
SPANISH FORT, Ala. (WKRG) — Kerri Settle was the woman who was shot and killed by her ex-husband Sunday night in Spanish Fort.
Settle worked with the Mobile County Public School System for years, and many of her former students learned of the horrific news.

“She was just a fantastic, patient and outstanding lady,” Barry Sullivan, Settle’s former Murphy High School student, said.
Sullivan said there was no educator like Settle.
“She was a beacon of morality in the school system,” Sullivan said. “At MCPSS, she made a difference in so many people’s lives who crossed paths with her.”
We spoke with some of Kerri’s friends who did not want to be on camera but said Settle dealt with domestic violence for months.

Spanish Fort Police Chief John Barber said this has been the most tragic form of domestic violence he has seen in the area.
“Any loss of life is tragic, this is the worst-case domestic situation that we all hear about,” Barber said.
Sullivan said he was in shock to find out that Kerri’s ex-husband, Michael Settle, was the one who took her life.
“It’s recasting; it’s shocking,” Sullivan said. “She was robbed from us from the world. It’s shocking to hear not only how she passed but the circumstances in which she had was just very unfortunate.”

News 5 spoke with Rhyion Ervin, a domestic violence advocate with The Lighthouse of Baldwin County, who said it’s something they see a lot in the area.
“The majority of the people that we serve are victims of domestic violence,” Ervin said. “We want to be able to respond. We want people to not become immune to it; we don’t want people to be immune to it or let people forget that it’s a real thing.”
And as for Kerri Settle, she will be missed.
“Of course, I’m going to miss her, she was just a great woman,” Sullivan said.
