TreeHouse Foods recall expands to all waffle, pancake products due to listeria risk
TreeHouse Foods has expanded its voluntary recall to include all waffle and pancake products due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
An Oct. 22 press release disclosed that the recall now includes frozen toaster waffle, Belgian waffle and pancake products. The manufacturer had previously voluntarily recalled some of its frozen waffle products due to the potential for Listeria contamination during production, per an Oct. 18 press release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The release stated that recalled products, distributed in states across the U.S. and provinces in Canada, were packed in various formats under a wide range of different brand names, including but not limited to Krusteaz, Kodiak, Good & Gather and Simple Truth.
The products included in the Oct. 22 release has best by dates of Oct. 1, 2024 to Oct. 11, 2025, and are sold at stores including Albertsons, Aldi, Dollar General, Foodhold, HEB, Kroger, Publix, Target and Walmart, among others.
TreeHouse Foods also released a separate statement on Oct. 22 to impacted Costco members, disclosing that the 24-count Krusteaz Belgian Waffles product purchased between Oct. 13, 2023, and Oct. 21, 2024, is part of the recall.
TreeHouse Foods has said there have been no confirmed illnesses in connection to the recalled items, according its Oct. 22 press release. The company says consumers who have the products should either throw them out or return them to the point of purchase for credit.
The entire list of recalled products, with images and UPC codes, can be found here, and TreeHouse Foods' release said the recall was issued with the knowledge of the FDA.
Symptoms of Listeria infection
Symptoms of invasive listeriosis, which means the Listeria has spread beyond the intestines, typically start within two weeks of consuming food contaminated with Listeria, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Symptoms can include:
Fever
Flu-like symptoms, such as muscle aches and fatigue
Headache
Stiff neck
Confusion
Loss of balance
The CDC noted that symptoms can become severe and that almost 1 in 6 non-pregnant people infected with invasive listeriosis die.
Symptoms in pregnant people are typically mild and some never experience symptoms, according to the agency. However, an infection has the potential to cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn.
