Full Send, The Bar-B-Q Man or Nueces Brewing? See who won Best BBQ in Bracket Showdown
On Monday, the Caller-Times started its first Bracket Showdown of the year.
The topic? Best barbecue restaurant in Corpus Christi.
The community voted and the top 20 went to a top 10, then to a top 5 and then to a top 3.
After a collective 2,913 votes from all Monday through Thursday, Full Send Barbecue took home the crown as Best BBQ Restaurant as voted by the people. It is located at 411 Taylor St.
Full Send Barbecue received 583 votes (43%), The Bar-B-Q Man Restaurant received 491 votes (36%) and Nueces Brewing and Barbecuing received 281 votes (21%).
Full Send Barbecue co-owner Andrew Pe?a said he started his business in 2020 but opened his own storefront next to The Gold Fish in downtown Corpus Christi in August 2023. He said winning just goes to show that his customers appreciate his hard work.
"Taking home first place means we're doing our job right and providing the best quality of BBQ for our customers," Pe?a said. "I also couldn't do this without Manny Martinez. He's the owner of South Texas Firewood Co. in Aransas Pass, where I get my wood from."
While the Bracket Showdown was a competition, Pe?a said it's "all love" in the BBQ community.
"I always recommend other restaurants," Pe?a said. "I'm always at The Bar-B-Q Man. I respect everyone in the industry because it's not easy at all. It takes passion and heart to survive in this business."
As for recommendations on what to enjoy at Full Send Barbecue, Pe?a said all of his "**** is awesome."
"Our brisket and mac is our No. 1 seller," Pe?a said. "We got first place at Buc Days in 2022 for our ribs. We also have homemade pickle fixings."
