Funding announced for dog park, accessible playground at Beaver Island State Park
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — New York State Senator Sean Ryan has announced $1 million in funding for Beaver Island State Park in Grand Island that will allow for the creation of a new dog park and three accessible upgrades, including an accessible playground.
The new dog park is expected to be north of the main parking lot and stretch for 4 acres. Over a quarter of the million dollar grant will be dedicated to it. A dog wash station, leash posts and a waste station will be included.
A new playground with a focus on accessibility and inclusivity will use $500,000 of the funding. In addition, an accessible ramp connecting the main Falconwood building to the water will use $170,000. The Americans with Disabilities Act compliant boardwalk ramp is expected to be 60 feet long and will allow visitors with disabilities access to the waterfront.
ADA push buttons will be added to existing bathroom doors in the park.
“With new funding, Beaver Island State Park can now offer an even greater variety of options to visitors,” Ryan said. “These upcoming projects have a strong focus on accessibility for all, which will allow everyone to enjoy what the park has to offer regardless of ability.”
