Funeral arrangements announced for legendary WGNO Sports Director Ed Daniels

METAIRIE, LA. (WGNO) — Funeral services for long-time WGNO Sports Director Ed Daniels have been announced.

Ed died on Friday, Aug. 16, three weeks after suffering a heart attack in California. He was 67 years old.

Accompanied by his wife Robin, Ed was in the Los Angeles area to cover the New Orleans Saints training camp.

A request from Ed Daniels’ family

Just after midnight on July 26, Robin said Ed suffered a massive heart attack. He remained hospitalized in California until being transported back to New Orleans through the efforts of Saints owner Gail Benson and admitted to Ochsner main campus.

Ed was a Rummel High School and Loyola University graduate who went on to join WGNO in 1991, ultimately becoming the most senior member of the team during his 47-year career in television.

New Orleans Saints and Pelicans remember Ed Daniels

Of all his accolades, his greatest accomplishment was becoming a husband, father and grandfather, proudly known as “Pops” and “Popsiboo.” He was also a parishioner of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and a member of the choir.

The public is invited to attend visitation and memorial mass at 6500 Kawanee Ave. in Metairie on Thursday, Aug. 22. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and mass will start at 1 p.m.

The burial will be private, but the public is welcome to join the family at Rock N’ Bowl at 3016 S. Carrollton Ave. in New Orleans for a Celebration of Life from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
