Gary Glitter documentary leaves ITV viewers feeling 'sick'
Glitter: The Popstar Paedophile is out now on ITVX
Convicted paedophile Gary Glitter was the subject of a new ITV documentary, which explored the extent of the sexual abuse he inflicted on girls as young as eight during the height of his fame.
The shamed singer, whose real name is Paul Gadd, is currently serving a 16-year prison sentence for sexually abusing girls, including the attempted rape of the aforementioned eight-year-old girl. He previously served a four-month prison sentence in 1999 after pleading guilty to 54 counts of possessing indecent images of children, and he was sentenced to three years in prison in Vietnam for child molestation of a 10-year-old and 13-year-old girl.
ITV's documentary Glitter: The Popstar Paedophile examines how the singer was able to use his fame and the power that came with it to abuse children throughout his career, with some people remarking how there were those who turned a blind eye to his actions.
The documentary examines Gadd's attempted rape of an eight-year-old girl in 1975, the rape of a 12-year-old girl, and a third victim who was "repeatedly raped" by the singer and still had nightmares about it. Viewers were understandably shocked by the documentary, with some claiming they felt physically sick after watching it.
