Gas leak in Oconto causes trains & traffic to be halted while technicians fixed gas line
OCONTO, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in Oconto County responded to a gas leak Tuesday afternoon after a contractor hit a gas line.
According to a release, Oconto Fire & Rescue was sent to the 500 block of McDonald Street to assist a contractor who had hit a gas line and had an active gas leak.

While responding, dispatch was requested to contact Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) to have them respond to the scene as well.
Upon arrival, firefighters were met by the superintendent of the contracting company, who stated they were doing directional drilling when they hit an unmarked gas line.
The contractor told firefighters that the crew immediately stopped all vehicles and machines and turned them off.
Due to the close proximity to the railroad tracks, Canadian National was notified, and all trains were halted during the leak.

WPS technicians turned the gas main off and monitored natural gas levels, ensuring there was no danger before giving the all-clear.
There were no injuries reported and no additional details were provided.
